This is a short, simple case study on a crank, no start L5P Duramax with new crate engine. Reading through service info, gave quick direction to the issue.The engine control module (ECM) supplies power and ground to the fuel rail pressure (FRP) regulator. The ECM monitors current on the circuits to detect a failure. If the current is outside of the expected range, DTC P0090 will set. The ignition is ON. The commanded FRP regulator current is between 400-1,500 mA .P0090 is an OBD-II code telling us there is a fault found within the fuel pressure regulator control circuit. You can also open the bleeder screw -- to let any air out. It is a black PLASTIC screw next to the primer pump. Be caredul tightening it back up --it can break.

The dealer replaced the battery and even though the P0091 code remained, no other instances of the truck dying happened.The truck showed a p0090 fuel pressure reg code. I tried replacing the mid harness and replacing the fuel pressure regulator. Truck starts up and sounds like its knocking then alms down a bit and sounds like a lb7 but fuel rail pressure stays around 20-23k there is no demand for it as the truck is idling.
